and inaugural event "From Quark to Quasars: The Art and Technology
of Visualizing Science" Symposium at the University of North
Carolina UNC-Asheville, NC USA on April 23-24, 2004. The
two-day
Symposium will demonstrate various new media and multimedia
applications used to visualize scientific research.
Presenters from NASA, the American Museum of Natural History,
the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, Hayden Planetarium
and the University of Georgia UGA Center for Remote Sensing
and Mapping Science will demonstrate and present at the symposium.
The symposium will assist local efforts to better understand
regional  resources
and potential partnerships through a series of facilitated
meetings between scientists, artists, academics and entrepreneurs.
Regional representatives from the National Climatic Data Center,
Oak Ridge National Laboratories, the Western North Carolina
supercomputing and Internet 2 initiatives, the National Forest
Service GIS/GPS mapping project, and the media arts and academic
communities will be invited to participate in the facilitated
meetings.
