| The
American Design
Awards (ADA) is hosting its 3rd Annual Design
Contest, open to graphic and web designers of all skill
levels from across the globe. The deadline for submitting entries
was set for August 1st 2004, but with a sudden surge of late
entries the deadline has been pushed back to August 15th.
This year the competition is sponsored by Corel™ and
Iomega™ who have generously donated over $35,000 dollars
worth of software and hardware packages destined for our top
winners in each of the 14 design categories.
ADA was established in February of 2000 in San Diego, California,
by a few design enthusiasts and professionals, who while running
their own design firms, came across thousands of impressive
portfolios from designers seeking employment.
Overwhelmed by the abundance of talent observed, they decided
to find a way to help these designers obtain the much needed
recognition that would perhaps help them in securing a career
in the field of visual arts, by providing them an international
medium to showcase their talents on.
As a result the ADA’s Monthly Design Contest was born
so that graphic artists could submit their web-based design
pieces into a fair and ethical design competition, ensuring
that their designs are viewed, judged and graded by real-life
design professionals, and ultimately winning web sites listed
on the site for everyone to view. Since there has never been
an entry fee associated with this contest, ADA has been overwhelmed
with thousands of entries each month, which could explain why
the results of this contest are usually delayed by a couple
of months!
The Annual Design Contest was established shortly thereafter,
growing in popularity year after year and welcomed by the domestic
and international design community as being among the top ten
design competitions around. Although there is a minimal entry
fee associated with this event, top three winners in each of
the 14 categories walks away with a personalized glass plaque
or certificate, design books, design software, computer paraphernalia,
and whatever else has been donated by our sponsors that year.
Today, the American Design Awards has over 20,000 active members
who regularly take part in the Monthly and Annual Design Contests,
and frequent the site for inspiration, design news and helpful
tips.
