Creative Postcard Club Update
by Alina Hagen

When was the last time you got to design just for the pure creative expression? Chances are, not often enough. Several of our Creative Latitude members find their creative release through membership in the Creative Postcard Club, started and run by another Creative Latitude member, Travis Tom.

For those of you unfamiliar with Creative Postcard Club (CPC), it is a group of professional designers, illustrators, students and others from around the world who correspond via postcard creations. Travis and CPC members suggest themes for each round, which are then voted on by all the members. When a theme has won the most votes, members have about a month to complete that particular round's theme assignment. Once a design is completed, the member emails and/or snailmails his/her design to the rest of the members in the group.

Some of the CPC recent assignments include zoo signs, a book cover and, most recently, a beverage label. There are currently 29 beverage label designs displayed on the site featuring bottled waters, dairy products, beers and refreshing fruit drinks. Round 17 has 46 book covers, and Round 16 has 51 fun zoo signs for you to review. Round 19, an inspirational quote, will be sent out on September 15th for an October 17th mailing deadline.

Other exciting events happening over at CPC include a T-shirt fundraiser that started in June. The shirt design features 21 stamp submissions from Round 11, which was a series of four stamps. There are a lot of outstanding and colorful designs, making for a fun shirt to wear promoting great design and the Club. You can view the design and information by linking from the home page. An order form is available on the site. There is a limited print run on the shirts.

Also in the works is an ePostcard feature that will begin beta testing this September. Visitors will be able to send postcard greetings of CPC members' designs from earlier assignments. Travis is also hoping to include other popular theme design submissions by CPC members such as: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and get well wishes which relate to the greeting card industry.

This month (September 2003), Creative Postcard Club celebrates its 3rd anniversary. Way to go Travis! For information about joining CPC and to check out the designs, visit www.creativepostcardclub.com.
