Y-100, Philadephia's top alternative radio station, contacted
TDBA about creating a promotional poster. The poster was for
the screening of their morning show's film featuring stupid
stunts performed by their on-air staff. There was really no
creative brief from the client except that it should have
the feel of the B-movie posters of the 50's and the deadline
was one week.
The only images the client could provide us was a few lo-res
digital shots for the film. We decided to hand-trace some
of the images then photocopy and silkscreen them to give
all the images a "grainy" poster feel. We then designed
a series of four posters with the layout structure based
on lo-buget
50's drag racing films including wacky fake quotes and taglines.
The client was so pleased with the end product that they had
the three unused posters printed and hung in the DJ booth
at the station. We were then contacted by the client and asked
to convert the poster design into artwork for a dvd case.
They are going to give away the dvd of the movie this summer
at all of their large concert promotions.
